The Person Behind the Art

My Name is Susanne Rylander

I am Swedish, but I am also Danish. I am a physicist, a wife, a bonus mom, and a cat lover. And of course, I am an artist.

Here, you’ll get a small glimpse into the person behind the art, and perhaps a sense of what truly matters to me beyond my work as an artist.

Although I take my art seriously, it is not my only occupation.

I hold a PhD in medical physics and work professionally in radiation therapy at Aalborg Hospital.

Balancing family life with two very different career paths, art and physics, can be a challenge in itself.

Art is my space for freedom, a contrast to the structured and precise world of science. Despite the differences, both are essential parts of who I am.

In my personal life, I am fortunate to have a wonderful family that brings balance beyond art and science.

My husband also plays an important role in the practical side of my business, allowing me to focus fully on creating art that brings joy.

The Past

I was born and raised in Sweden

In the small town of Mölle. The most beautiful and idyllic harbor town near Helsingborg in the Skåne region.

I grew up with loving parents who supported my choices and ambitions. Mölle is a truly special place to grow up, and I still think of it often with a smile.

I had a safe and happy childhood as the youngest of four siblings. I have two sisters and one brother.

Today, we are spread across the world. In fact, I am the one who lives closest to Mölle, even though I live in the heart of Jutland in Denmark.

My brother is the only one still living in Sweden, but on the opposite side of the country. My eldest sister lives in Greece, my other sister lives in the United States, and I live in Denmark.

I am not the only one in my family with artistic talent, but I am the only one who chose to pursue art as more than just a hobby.

Before I decided to take my art seriously, I completed two technical master’s degrees in Sweden. I then moved to Denmark in 2010 to continue my studies and later complete my PhD in medical physics.

The Present

Balance Matters

Art plays a big role in my life. So does my work as a physicist. But there also has to be space for my family. And of course, my cats.

I have my husband and my two wonderful bonus children. It is exactly the family I have always dreamed of, and I consider myself very fortunate and happy.

But my cats are something truly special. They are my little rays of sunshine.

They melt my heart every time I see them, and I simply cannot resist them.

If they could talk, they would probably be able to make me do anything.

I have had cats in my life since I was a child, and I always will.

Several of my cats have actually appeared in my art over time, and they will most certainly continue to do so in the future.

The Future

Is Ours to Shape

No one knows what the future holds. But I am certain it will be something wonderful, and I will do everything I can to fill it with colorful and inspiring art.

In 2021, I founded my business, Art by Susanne Rylander, as a natural next step in my artistic journey.

While no one can predict the future, my goal is for my business to grow alongside the development of my art.

I have no ambition to become the next Picasso or Rembrandt, but I would love for my art to reach a wider audience.

I deeply value the balance I have finally found in my life between my family, my two very different careers, and of course my beloved cats. At the same time, I am confident that this balance can support my passion for art as it continues to grow.

Art is much more than just work. I put my heart and soul into everything I create, and when I paint, it is my deepest emotions that are allowed to speak.

That is why I call it:

Art from the heart. Made with love.
